Gainesville Coins
Gold Dealers

Reviewed by Metals Buyer | March 18, 2011

I frequently purchased metals and have used Tulving and Apmex in the past. Decided to try Gainesville since Apmex seems to be getting greedy with premiums as of late. Bottom line is the few dollars you save with Gainesville is definitely not worth the hassle and higher priced inferior shipping.

Gainesville requires a bank wire which automatically adds approximately $20 to your order. While this is no big deal, it does imply that your order will be shipped immediate; that has not been my experience with shipping times ranging from 1-2 weeks after confirmed bank wire. Apmex ships next day upon receipt of bank wire.

Gainesville also charges more for shipping, yet, uses the low-cost, bureaucratic U.S. Postal service to ship their orders; evidently to skim profits off shipping because the USPS does not charge as much as UPS. While this practice is most certainly dishonest, it is means you cannot track your order because with the exception of Priority and Express mail, tracking is not available, and Gainesville evidently is not willing to pay the few extra bucks (though you are charge) to have tracking on the package. Average delivery times for a package range from 8-14 business days from Florida to major metro North Carolina.

Bottom line is coins are coins provided you can trust the vendor you are purchasing from. I question whether you can trust Gainesville since their business practices leave a lot to be desired. I would avoid Gainesville even if their prices are a few dollars less. Between higher priced shipping for inferior service and terrible response, it simply is not worth the frustration and worry.
