I don't see a reason for bad reviews on Apmex. I pay my money. - They get me my bars. I just received my 4 th order within weeks and each item was perfect. 1-oz bars, 5 and 10-oz bars all superb. Other sites are minimum orders, higher prices, higher shipping costs.

APMEX are basically crooks
DO NOT BUY FROM APMEX. Ipurchased bullion from APMEX and Bullion exchange, both on ebay. bullion exchange delivered my purchase before apmex even put any shipping information, which they didn't. customer service was aweful. they told me ebay dictated that a 4 day hold be put on all bullion purchases. How did this other ebay user not only ship before 4 days, but actually deliver!?
I opened a dispute with paypal. they said they could not ship now and continued to hold my money! crooks and way too big for their britches for sure.
this is my first online complaint ever about any online seller. i've never been so mistreated!

several buys great experience
I have ordered several times from APMEX and could not be happier. I would prefer that they don't wait the 7 days on check holds as the appear to ACH the funds, particularly with repeat customers. that said every deal I have done with them has been superb. On the few occasions where I sent wires I received by metals in no more than 2 days. Everything has been as advertised and they have been great to deal with. I will continue to use them, wish they changed the personal check policy, but other than that, as mentioned above, I could not be happier.

I researched various dealers diligently and read reviews for each one I considered purchasing from. Apmex came out on top and I was not disappointed. I am absolutely delighted to deal with a company that gives honest descriptions of their merchandise, sets delivery dates correctly, and follows up by phone to ensure that I received my shipment and to make sure I was satisfied. Shipping is bullet proof, their merchandise boxes are a work of art in itself, and service is always, without exception, polite and efficient. If it shows on their web site, they have it in stock. Pictures are of merchandise are always exactly what you will get. No bait and switch with Apmex. They will always work to give you the best price possible on your particular order. If you shop anywhere else for price and false promises, you are making a big mistake. There are plenty of shalatins out there who will take you money and not deliver what theyy promise. i buy 2 kilo gold from apmex my order was over 80 k every thing it nice accept thy did not send it over night and thy did not but any insurance on the box make loss one night of sleep...i got the order the 2 day later every thing was OK.

Bought 5 1878cc Morgan Silver dollars. I never got the Items and waited several months. APMEX just blew me off as thou I did not matter. They said the Items were under insurance and I would get a refund. I never got anything.

Once coin short
I Bought a 100$ value bag of liberty halves and got the bag and counted them 3 times. It was one coin short. I would call this skimming or sloppy processing. I don't know and I don't care. I wont ever buy from them again.

BEST OF THE BEST
Ordered $10,000+ in gold coins in the morning. Sent a wire transfer payment with full payment at noon the same day. Apmex shipped that same afternoon. The coins were in my mailbox the very next day (from 4 states away). The coins were exactly what was ordered, and packaged extremely well.
As a gold buyer, it just cannot get any better than this. Have ordered from a couple of other dealers and those transactions were OK... But nothing can beat this exceptional buyer experience.

First Order - Good Fulfillment
Very happy with the buying experience. Order came in a timely manner and great packaging. The silver bars that I ordered were packed in an inner box with foam padding. In fact it's good enough to use for storing the silver. No need to transfer to another box. The website is a little busy with an incredible amount of products available. Maybe an easier way to navigate would be nice but it's by no means unusable. The wishlist feature is great. Everyone should have that feature. As I browse around the site I can just click on an item and add it to the wishlist. Considering how many items they have, it's a must have feature. I can definitely say that I'll be buying again. In fact I'll be entering a second order this afternoon.

Another big company practices the most discriminatory practice that was thought to be long had gone and forbidden from being practiced and society have evolved and forgotten the knowhow of practicing such discrimination and racism. APMEX deems to bring and resurrect racism and discrimination against you if your name sounds Mediterranean or Islamic or anything out of the normal and acceptable names such as Michael, Steve, John or Sam, e.t.c.
If your name remotely resembles a Mediterranean name or God forbid a Muslim name, prepare yourself to be scrutinized and discriminated against by APMEX. Just like when African Americans used to be discriminated against in the past (and still in the present) because of the color of their skin! Today you better run to the court house and change your name if your name happened to be Raheem or Abdullah and definitely if your name is Mohammed. If you don’t, then you should expect denial of credit, employment, school admission and a phone call from every security Dept of any company you made a purchase from over the internet.
This is how bad the situation for people who lives in the U.S with such names and hale from Mediterranean or Muslim backgrounds. The discrimination against this group of minority in our society has become more and more aggressive and apparent in all aspects of our society with no shame of practicing this type of discriminations and racism! APMEX is a company that openly practices this kind of racism and discrimination.
My latest encounter with such discrimination came from a transaction I have made with a company by the name of APMEX. Supposedly this is a big and reputable company in the retail business of precious metal, but not big enough to elevate them self from the demeaning practice of discrimination. Upon placing an order with this company I received an email for APMEX stating that there is a small problem with my order needed to be solved by contacting them to solve this small problem. Sure no problem I picked up the phone and dialed the provided 800 number to be greeted by whom? By their security department!! “How can I help you” I asked Michelle the lady that was according to her from APMEX security Dept.? Michelle responded with the most shocking and the most poorly thought off of a question, where are you located Mr. Elwan? “Here in New York” I responded,” why” I asked? We’ll Mr. Elwan your IP address showing that you have placed your order from the Netherlands are you in the Netherland Mr. Elwan? No I responded I am here in New York and I placed the order from my home here in NY, what do you mean my IP address is coming from the Netherland? I continued by saying “what kind of BS you are trying to pull here guys? “ In an apparent change of tactics Michelle asked me if I could provide her with my credit card information to verify my address with my bank. At this point I felt that I am being a victim of an obvious and classic case of discrimination, first of all, I told Michelle, your sales department should have been with me on the phone to initiate the phone call with my bank since they should have all the necessary information to provide my bank while I am with them on the phone, and not some security department that is asking me for my credit card information one more time, second of all APMEX have already got an authorization from my bank and the amount has been deducted from my available funds and if they have any security issues as they claim then they should of contacted me the day the order was placed and not two days after, what kind of a security department that delay such important issue? That is if there is such an important issue as they claim and not just practicing some kind of discrimination and racist act that is violating every civil law on the federal lave and the state level of every state in the U.S.A.
Michelle could not find in her pretext scenarios a respond to my objection to APMEX customers humiliating practices and the only thing she can offer is to cancel the order, not to process and expedite the order and apologize for their obvious attempt to practice the lowest level of racism and discrimination, no cancel the order and prove to me and to all Americans out there that APMEX is a company that practice openly racism and discrimination.

I have ordered from apmex 8 times now and have got everything in a timely manner and what I ordered. I have also had good luck with Scottsdale and Northwest mint. Good thing about Apmex is you can order a few dollars in halves or quarters to finish of those rolls you have been working on.

APMEX, in my opinion, is BY FAR the most trusted on-line Precious Metal Dealer. Their prices are a little higher than others, but the peace of mind i get that my order will be shipped no more than two days after cleared payment(always one day for me cause I pay by credit card)is well worth it. I saw this advertisement for gold British Victoria sovereigns, and ordered two. I received George head coins not the Victoria heads.
The Post shipment guys wrote me that they will give free shipment next time as a consolation. I tried to explain that at least they should replace one of the two with the Victoria head , for which the guys emailed saying they have none currently in stock. Two days later the same advertisement showed up indicating those coins are now available. So I called. The customer rep was rude and told me that if I don't like the coin I can return for refund -- but the price of gold and the coins had gone up in the meantime and I could get more by selling them. They advertise one thing and send something else; they do try to cover this trick by saying coins can be from this date to that date but if you are looking for Victoria head coins, you will get George heads (cleverly packaged by giving dates not descriptions although the title of the ad says Victoria). High shipping charges as well.
Obviously they do not care and not buying from them is the best choice.

100 OZ silver bar was not stamped
100 OZ JM silver bar was only stamped OZ, i.e. the 100 was missing. I can not believe it left the mint and/or assay office in this condition.
Bar was returned and full refund was given, less shipping charges to and from AMPEX.
I feel they should have reimbursed for these charges.

Great site. Fast shipping
I just started to I rest in metals. Mainly silver because of its price point. I shopped around to see who had the best prices or should I Say added the least amount of premium to the spot price. I found 12 websites that were less money for the same silver coin and bars. Who does not want to save $1-$3 for each coin or bar? I did but unfortunately I found out why the prices where less expensive . The lesser prices websites had real bad customer service .

Horrific Company - The worst kind there is!
I've purchased over $80,000 worth of gold and silver from Apmex over the last 5 years. Just recently I was contemplating whether or not to make a small purchase for around $4,000. I was leaning towards yes but hadn't pressed the final confirmation button. I left my computer to tend to something and my friends 6 year old son who happened to be at my house jumped on the computer and started pressing buttons. It just so happens the order was made.
Now I'm getting demand letters, certified mail and phone calls telling me I have to pay them $500. I keep telling them it was a mistake and that I have a spotless track record of always paying for my purchases.
They don't care about customer service and they sure as hell don't appreciate your business. Go buy somewhere else or you'll regret it!

Online Ordering and Excellent Service
Once or twice per year since 2007 I have ordered from APMEX with average order in excess of $20,000 and have been very satisfied each time. My initial was by telephone and paid with a bank wire but after that most of my orders have been online with payment by Cashiers check or personal check. When possible, I prefer ordering online instead talking to a person.
I have been very satisfied with their service. For example, once I ordered 3,000 1 oz silver rounds and a 10 oz silver bar. Since I paid by Cashier’s check, they notified me that a hold on shipping would be about 10 days. However, the 10 oz silver bar was a graduation present and I needed it sooner. I told this to APMEX and they agreed to immediately ship the 10 oz bar and only place a hold on the 3,000 oz silver rounds.
Clearly, since they had received the Cashier’s check and had my VISA card info, there was little risk in mailing the 10 oz silver bar. However, even though it was mailed separately, the shipping was free (free shipping on large orders) and indicates their willingness to work with me to solve a minor problem.
The only complaint I have is, relative to other companies, their premiums have increased and they no longer have the lowest premiums. Nevertheless, the typical ½% to 1% higher premium is better than an unfilled order or lengthy shipping delays.
For example, because the price was slightly lower on 9/3/2011 and again on 11/23/2011, I ordered some 1 once Platinum Canadian Maple coins from Golden Eagle Coins. The first order was filled successfully but on the second order they said they were out of the coins I ordered and offered a refund or they could substitute the Canadian Maple coins for Australian coins. I am certain they could have ordered more Canadian Maple to fill my order but perhaps at a higher cost to them. Regardless, the price of Platinum had not changed much so I accepted a refund rather than accept a less desirable product. I have not order from them again.

This company came highly recommended by a friend who works with them quite a bit. First of all, I would like to say that their site is very straight forward and easy to navigate. Apmex is the best when it comes to service.
This place is really the best to order from around. They kept me up to date the whole way through my purchase. Very fast shipping next day in fact. The packaging was superb. You know the truth is there gold is $10-$20 more per ounce than many places and there silver is .50-$1 more per ounce but you get what you pay for. The extra money buys you no games no gimmicks great service and fast shipping. You get what you pay for and if you want great service and you want your metal quickly with no excuses then pay a couple extra bucks and go with Apmex. If you want to mail a $10,000 money order to someone who is going to save you $150 but wait 8 weeks to ship your metal then try some of these other places but for me I cant go through the drama of that so I will pay a couple of extra bucks and use Apmex.

super fast shipment and no issues at all. only minor irritant is that they have a $5k/month credit card limit. i would probably order closer to 10k at a time and probably fairly frequently, but 5k/mo prevents me from using them more.

Best I have found
I am sold on APMEX. I am a small investor and have absolutely zero complaints. I have never had any reason to contact them regarding my transactions. Yes I scan other sites before ordering and have never had a reason to shop elsewhere. So their shipping may be on the high side, but I get my orders in unbelievable turn around time; and the way they pack their orders is second to none. There is absolutely no way you have to worry about the package coming open in transit.

They seem to exist just to charge ridiculous rates for shipping, and if you are foolish enough to cancel an order they will email you, mail you, call you, send registered letters...they will do anything for the $35+ you will be charged.
My opinion: very disreputable and extremely unpleasant to deal with. You will spend a long time making any money off your purchase.

Some Things are Worth a Premium
I placed my order on line. I mailed the check. I tracked the order through their process. I received my product. I have 2 criticisms for APMEX. The shipping costs are high. Any business must make money wherever it can. APMEX is making more in shipping than most. Overall prices: They're a little high.
With that being said, I can say that I haven't read as many reviews saying that APMEX is late in delivering orders. That is worth a couple of bucks per order in my opinion. If the secret to keeping customers happy is keeping the packing and delivery lines staffed, other dealers could learn from them.

Quality, Variety, and Service.
If you are looking for the cheapest metals available, APMEX is not for you. If you are looking for variety, inventory, competitive pricing, fast shipping, and fantastic customer service, APMEX is the place to be. You must understand that keeping large quantities of precious metals in stock will naturally increase overhead. After the price drop of April 2013, they were one of the few dealers who had anything left to ship at all and they restocked quicker too. They will ship your product within two days of receipt of payment, and if there is any legitimate problem with your order, they will fix it promptly. I have had two problems with past orders. I sent them a picture to demonstrate the problem, and they effectively rectified the situation without delay. Read their FAQs and terms and conditions before ordering, and there will be absolutely surprises. I will continue to do business with APMEX for many years to come.

APMEX BAD
Ordered 3 Oz, silver sent check for 104.97. Two weeks later they cash the check and canceled the order. I have called them they said they have sent me a check for 55.97 and were keeping the other half of the money as a cancelation fee. This has got to be illegal.

This is an update to my earlier rating of 5*. Thanks to this site, I have done some careful comparisons and will switch my business in the future to TPM (Texas Precious Metals). TPM prices are consistently better, their shipping is a bit lower, and their ratings are amazingly high, lacking the occasional 1-star complaints one typically finds in these reviews.
In my 3 orders from Apmex, they did what they said they would do: delivered correct product at price & time promised. BUT... being this is a commodity after all, I'll go with the lower price option (given that it has equal or BETTER customer ratings. Now... the only question is *when* I'll place my first order with TPM.

Good Job Many Times
APMEX is far better than average in website navigation of a wide product inventory. Once your order payment is received, you can log in and follow the process through a very transparent order status sequence. I have not had any problems regarding eight orders of a variety of products. As with most companies that accept personal checks, their wait/hold time of six days until starting shipping seems excessive since checks clear in less than three days. APMEX has no bargain basement pricing but their pricing supports a smooth organized follow through in trying to meet your satisfaction. And No, I don't work there!

The main thing I like about Apmex is they post their buy/sell prices right there online for everyone to see. I'm suspicious of companies who force you to call.
I have placed 3 orders with Apmex for various coins & bars. Each order was filled promptly, on time, at advertised price, no tricks, no hidden fees, no fooling around. Prior to the first order, I spoke with a rep and was given some very helpful & useful information, including a follow up email with further details. The last 2 orders were totally online. One by check and one by credit card. Personal check takes longer to receive delivery, but that's understandable as they must wait for funds to clear. But it's cheaper than using a credit card, which is also reasonable.
Some of the negative reviews are really more issues with the customer, e.g. changing his mind, not reading the rules, making assumptions, faulty expectations. So it pays to read the details and not just the average rating.
I haven't tried the others, so unfortunately can't compare.

i like apmex
I have used apmex several times to buy gold and silver. The bars and coins that I have received have been in great condition. I ordered one of the random $10 face value 90percent silver coin rolls along with my bars and I got a nice roll of silver quarters and their prices were nt high they were competitive. I don't understand all these people saying their stuff is overpriced. You can't compare the price of a new coin or bar to a used one. If you are disappointed in your buy because you thought it would be a good investment and it didn't turn out the way you had hoped, don't blame apmex. They ship fast, especially when you use their eBay store because you and your card and address are already verified. I could easily sell the products I got from apmex and get my money back on eBay if I wanted to because I purchased items that were close to spot value with good resale. I made a good, educated buy. Some people don't and blame the wrong people. Don't let these negative reviews scare you away from apmex. With a company as big as apmex, there are sure to be a few mistakes here and there on their part but overall they are great. Most reviews are going to be negative because most people aren't goin to write reviews unless they are not pleasant. Both their online store and eBay store are great. They have many, many sales and their rating is like 99.8percent.

Excellent variety and delivery
I have ordered from APMEX two times in the past 3 months, I have not sold back to them so I cannot speak to what that experience is like. I like the variety of products that they offer; they have coins that aren’t available on most sites. I was very satisfied with the 1 week delivery and the e-mail status reports on my orders.
APMEX is not the cheapest gold and silver supplier as compared to Merrit or JM Bullion; however, I don’t find them outrageous in their pricing. I would gladly order from them again, especially, for the hard to find coins Britannia’s, Kookaburras, Morgan’s and so on.

cheats at price
I brought a pamp suisse silver bar from this dealer for $350.After a month I have desided to sell this product back to thes dealer. The price he gave me is $250, as per the market price.When I told the dealer that the price difference was only 20 cents from the time I brought and selling time.The reason the dealer says is pamp Suisse is a rare silver bar and that is the reason they are selling for $100 more for every silver bar. I brought 4 of those bars and I have to loose $400 for no reason, tough the price of silver changed in a very less amount.
APMEX behaves so cunning. They do not display the buy price for this kind of scare things.
I spoke to many dealers to sell my silver and no one wants to pay more than $250.
If you really want to buy precious metals, do not buy online.

Lousy service
Made an online order to purchase a coin from APMEX. Changed my mind 2 days later, before I made a payment. They emailed me to inform me there's a $35 charge for cancellation. WTF!
They will continue to email and haunt and call you till they get the "cancellation fee" of $35.

My biggest problem with Apmex is that their premiums over spot are completely too high. Do yourself a favor and check the competition before you waste your money at Apmex.

I've done a number of purchases of silver bars with them over the years. This last one left me wondering why I suffered through them all this time. I tried sending them a bank wire to pay for the purchase. I could not add their account to my online wire transfer despite multiple attempts. It kept on saying "account rejected". B of A says there was nothing wrong on my end & suggested I contact Apmex. I called their customer service and was treated to a rude individual who didn't hear what I was saying when I said there was nothing wrong with my account & B of A suggested I contact them. Ultimately physicially went to the bank, waited an hour on line & sent the wire.

Our first bullion experience here was OUTSTANDING!
We purchased 100 oz from APMEX, which was our first bullion purchase. We did our research and found their prices to be LOWEST on bars. We ordered on-line and it was easy to use. The bars that we received were individually sealed with consecutive serial numbers. The packing was better than excellent. The box came with a signature required, which is what we asked for. The bars were brillant, not tarnished. The bars shipped out and were delivered in two days, much faster than was expected. Fedex tracked the shipment and called to ensure we would be here. We are going to order more, mainly because they made our first purchase so smooth. We were anxious, but didn't have to be in the end. We recommend APMEX without any reservations whatsoever!!!

I used APMEX until they added 8.75% sales tax to New York City residents in addition to credit acrd fees and shipping for gold and silver. I still buy platinum and palladium through them though because they have every 1 oz proof American eagle and they don't charge the 8.75% tax on platinum and palladium. Too bad they lost my business for gold and silver though and I have moved on to other sites. I had no complaints against them for delivery though and they've always delievered mint conditioned coins.

I selected APMEX after reading a number of reviews on them.. the vast majority were positive. I've purchase both gold and silver (not numismatic coins but just for precious metal value) and have been pleased. We had one little glitch on a storage tube that was a miscommunication.. but that's it.
Other than that.. I find their price over spot very good.. you do need to always figure in the shipping costs, and on a small order, that can be significant. However, everything I've ordered has shipped on time, and arrived in great condition.
They're a good company.

Very high premium above spot price
I already spent over $20,000 with APMEX. Their premium above spot price is very high, because I didn't do my homework first. One of the item that I bought - Australian Perth Mint Lunar Series II Dragon 1 oz gold. The premium fell $300, when the year turned from Year of Dragon to Year of Snake. I called the customer service. They told me it's just supply and demand.
